About Me

HENRY OGUNJIMI is a Documentary Filmmaker/Director/Producer/ Videographer/Video Editor and Photographer. He recently completed his graduate studies in Journalism at New York University, with interests in news and documentaries. His works cover social and political issues as well as personal perspectives.

In 2019, He completed his first independent film “MARKED”, a documentary that talks about what is left of an ancient cultural practice of tribal marks among the Yoruba people from Nigeria and his personal experience growing up as a little boy with marks on his face.

MARKED” currently has 6 Official Selections at film festivals across the USA, London, Scotland & Belgium.

Before coming to New York, he was a producer at Nigeria’s number one private television station, Channels Television Inc.

Back in 2016, he completed a documentary “From Benin City to Italy” which reveals the problem of human trafficking in Nigeria, the risks young men and women take to get to Europe in search of greener pastures, and the realities they encounter when they eventually arrive their destinations abroad.

The project took him from the ancient city of Benin in Nigeria’s south-south region through some parts of the Sahara Desert and eventually to Italy.

The broadcast of this piece in Nigeria generated a lot of reactions and enlightened a great number of people.

This work was inspired by his drive to tell the story from an African’s eye because most documentaries on human trafficking had been done by foreign journalists from Europe and America.

In the summer of 2012, He and two colleagues from Channels Tv visited the United States to produce a six-part series titled “Community Policing and Law Enforcement in a Free Society: The American Example”. Back home, these series triggered reforms in the Nigerian Police Force and has kept the issue of state/community policing on the front burner of most national security discuss.

He is from the southwest of Nigeria but was born and raised in the northwest. He speaks two local languages, Yoruba and Hausa, which gives him an advantage in his line of duty.

His interest in journalism dates back to his childhood days when he discovered his knack for asking questions, finding answers, speaking and telling stories.

He started at Channels television in 2007 and has over the years developed skills in video shooting, video editing, scriptwriting, voiceover, broadcast news, and documentary production.

He also loves to fly aerial imaging drones.
